Our volunteers fit seamlessly into our 24/7 staffing model. Volunteer firefighters are required to work 48 hours per month. These can be accomplished in one (1) 48-hour shift, two (2) 24-hour shifts, one (1) 24-hour shift and two (2) 12-hour shifts, or four (4) 12-hour shifts. Volunteer firefighters do receive a stipend for eligible shifts worked.
Volunteers without previous fire experience or certifications are encouraged to apply. Huffman Fire Department offers training that leads to the Texas Commission of Fire Protection's Basic Structural Firefighter certification. Active volunteers are also eligible for Tuition Exemptions for applicable college degrees and certifications, including Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic. This is an excellent option for individuals wishing to pursue a career in the fire service, but do not have the time or resources to quit their job and attend a full-time fire academy and EMT school for over 6 months.
We love our community, so feel free to visit during normal business hours.
